Good Omens

I’m three episodes in and adoring this adaption. (Mild spoilers.)

I’m the type that usually finds screen adaptions of books I love to be woefully inadequate but this one has not left me disappointed, so far.

A big part of it is definitely the casting. Watching Tennant’s Crowley and Sheen’s Aziraphale be flirty and oh-so-British is warming my soul and bringing me great joy. They are so fucking adorable. Az’s face when Crowley saved his books… ❤

My husband and I are watching it with our boys, ages 12 and 15, and they’re really enjoying it, too. So far the boys’ favorite moment seems to have been Crowley intimidating his plants into being the most luxuriantly beautiful plants in London. My 12 year old, participant in his school’s garden club, was equal parts horrified and amused.

I need more content like this. As much as I love Ruth Negga and Joe Gilgun on Preacher, and the premise and cast of Westworld – as much as I love the cast and seasons 1-4 of Game of Thrones – I need some fantasy that can confront the darkness in humanity with tongue firmly in cheek and a gentle affection for what we could be if we’d simply stop getting in our own way constantly.

I need something that gives me a laugh, along with some light in the darkness.

(Speaking of which, if you’re not watching The Good Place, you should. Not British, but definitely as adorable as this Good Omens adaption, and one of the best shows on television at the moment.)
